Urushi lacquer from the sap of the Japanese lacquer tree has been used for centuries as a decoration and has been applied to the dial of the watch using ancient artisan skills.

Within this design, the black Urushi lacquering incorporates a gold lacquer technique known as Maki-e, the result is a striking colour combination.

Both Urushi and Maki-e require the use of extremely rare tools,

often made by the artisans themselves from organic materials.
